Maine is the main man for the job

With the Mets down 1 game in the national league east they send Maine to the mound on Saturday for a must win game. Maine almost made history today. He threw 8.2 innings of no hit baseball when Paul Hoover broke that up but that was the only hit in the game for the Marlins. After the MEts and Marlins emptied the bases twice the Mets won the game 13-0.One that they had to win. with the Phillies losing today the Mets are now tie again for first place in the east with 1 game to go.

This can not be happening

On Friday the Mets send out Oliver Perez in need of a big win here. this game was not good for the Mets. Perez was only able to go 3.2 innings giving up 6 earned runs. the only good news out of this game was that the bullpen was lights out giving up only 1 earn run. with this lost the Mets lost their first place lead to the Phillies. they had this lead since may 15. with 2 games to go the Mets have to play like they started the season to take the National league East.

Not even Pedro can stop the bleeding.

In need of a win the Mets send Pedro to the mound on Thursday night. he had a quality outting but couldnt get the job done this time around. with 1 man on and 1 out Pedro gets the ground ball that he needs but Castillo loses the ball making a error and causing the inning to contine. the Cardinals get only 1 run that inning but get 3 earned runs off of Pedro cause him his first lose of the season and allowed the Phillies to gain another game on the Mets making their lead only 1 game.

Another lost for the Mets

In a crucial game for the Mets they started a rookie to make his debut. Phillip Humber started the game off good throwin 3 shut out innings but it all came down after that. He ended up going 4 innings giving up 5 earned runs. blowing the Mets 5-0 lead. The Mets went to the bullpen again for help and didnt get much of it. Joe Smith came in and couldnt retire anyone giving up to hits and 2 earned runs and also taking the lost. Pedro Felicano, Scott Schoenweis, Orlando Hernandez, and Aaron Heilman all came in and pitched all shut out ball. The score now 7-6 with the nationals in the lead. the top of the 9th the Mets bring in Billy Wagner and he gives up 2 earned runs in a inning. the Mets need to win because Phillies have won and now are 1 game behind in the east.

Tuesday nights game

Tuesday was no better than Monday. Tom Glavin started the game and got 1 out then gave up 2 hits and then Austin Kearns for the second night in a row hit a 3 run homerun. Then Glavin gave up another homerun to Tony Batista making the game 4-0. in the bottom of the 1st Jose Reyes led off the inning with a solo homerun. Glavin ended up giving up 6 earned runs and the bullpen once again didnt do better giving up 4 earned runs in 5 innings. in the bottom of the 9th the score was 10-3 and the Mets try to come back. the Mets get 2 base hits before Reyes hit his second homerun of the night this one being a 3 run home run. the score is now 10-6 and the Mets are not done. the Mets get 3 more runs but left the tying run on 3rd base. making the final 10-9 a Nationals win.

monday nights game

monday was a disaster for Mike Pelfrey and the Mets. Mike Pelfrey started the game and went 5.2 innings and gave up 7 runs 6 of them being earned. Then the bullpen came in the game and couldnt do any better. Guillermo Mota pitched 1 inning giving up 3 earned runs and Dave Williams just called up last week came in to pitch a inning and also gave up 3 earned runs which was not a good start to his debut this year. the good out of this is that Moises Alou continued his hitting streak and brought it to 28 games. The final score to this game was 13-4 a win for the Nationals.
